While on tour, Meredith found a unique way to give back by creating Anybody's Mentoring Program (A.M.P.). On various tour stops from 1997 through 2002, Brooks would arrange to speak with crowds of high school students about making it in both the music industry and in life. She performed her music, but the focus was on relating her experiences and stirring others to work hard to achieve their goals.
“In working with kids through my mentoring program, A.M.P. (Anybody's Mentoring Program), I have witnessed hundreds of kids who have been saved through music. Little Kid's Rock may be that ”angel” to millions of kids who deserve a chance to experience and develop one of the greatest natural gifts available music and all the amazing benefits it can bring!”
“The support we are receiving from Ms. Brooks really underscores the importance of keeping music where it belongs – in our schools! Music programs are being slashed from public school budgets at an alarming rate, so it’s wonderful to team up with a member of the music community who understands the significance of giving back,” added Dave Wish, executive director/founder of Little Kids Rock.
Little Kids Rock teaches kids how to play pop, rock, funk, blues, and hip-hop music. LKR students not only perform, but they also compose and record their own music. They have released four full-length CDs as well as music videos featuring student-written originals. Currently, the Little Kids Rock program serves more than 12,000 students in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and Washington DC.
About Meredith Brooks
She has shared the top ten chart with Bono, toured with Mick Jagger and has been a label-mate of Paul McCartney’s but the person who has made the biggest impact in Meredith Brooks' music is less than 3 years old. The artist who electrified the world and established herself as an undeniable creative force in a generation of female rockers with her multi-platinum disc “Blurring the Edges” in 1997 became a mother in 2004. Motivated by the birth of her son, Meredith has focused her imaginative energy and passion towards the writing and recording of a children’s record, “If I Could Be” Today, Meredith’s latest effort, “If I Could Be” captures the electricity and magic of all that has happened for Meredith since 2004, with the same song writing caliber of her past releases. This album is what a children’s album should be engaging, interactive, and fun. More information can be found at:www.meredithbrooks.com
About Little Kids Rock
Little Kids Rock believes that music is a critical component of a first-rate education. Many schools have been stripped of their music programs. These cuts have had a disproportionately large impact on children from low-income backgrounds. Little Kids Rock restores music to its rightful place in the academic lives of kids in our public schools by providing a rich music education program including instrument instruction, free instruments and trained mentors. Currently, the Little Kids Rock program serves more than 12,000 students in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas and Washington DC.
