The Rock ‘n’ Blues Fest promoted by Westchester Media’s WM Concerts and featuring Johnny Winter, Edgar Winter, Rick Derringer, Leslie West, and Kim Simmonds invaded the Westchester County Center in White Plains, NY, on August 12, 2012. Prior to the big gig, Guitar Player contributor Vinnie DeMasi moderated a meet-and-greet with Derringer at the White Plains Sam Ash store. The legendary rocker spoke to the crowd of his storied past with the McCoys (“Hang on Sloopy”), his tenure with the Edgar Winter group, his solo career, the recent gospel albums recorded with his family, and an upcoming documentary about his life. The evening’s all-star revue featured five pull-no-punches sets by the individual artists, as well as over-the-top collaborative jams—including Derringer’s guest spot with Edgar Winter on the classic “Free Ride.”
