“This is a technique I discovered from an interview with Pat Martino,” writes Hudson, New York guitarist Chris Tenerowicz. “I call it the Think Tank method, after the album Martino admitted to using it on. Basically, you take the alphabet and match it to a scale, mode, or group of notes. For example, if you use D natural minor as your scale, the resulting decoder key looks like this [right]. Each letter has a note. From there, all you do is spell an interesting word or phrase, then translate that into notes. Its a really cool technique for breaking out of a rut or writers block.” For reminding us that not all great licks start out on the fretboard, Chris wins a Dunlop Jimi Hendrix JH-OC1 Octavio Pedal!
