Another Planet Entertainment, Superfly Productions, and Starr Hill Presents, in a partnership with the San Francisco Recreation & Park Department, are proud to announce how once again the Outside Lands Music & Arts festival, to be held, August 28 - 30, 2009 in Golden Gate Park, will honor its host city of San Francisco as well as the entire Bay Area with food, wine and activities that celebrate its exclusive locale. To give fans the true Northern California culinary experience, Outside Lands will be bringing back the very popular segments of the festival -- Winehaven and A Taste of the Bay Area -- and is very excited to introduce "The Barbary" tent, a performance venue celebrating the city's unique place in the global performing arts community. All of this combined with the festival's creative music programming is certain to make Outside Lands one of the most distinctive and exceptional events of the summer.
"Since we started planning Outside Lands, we knew that one of the festival's key elements was going to be the local component," says Another Planet Entertainment's Allen Scott. "It's just so rare to have so much incredible food and wine in your backyard; and so many great artists live and work here. We want to show the world what the Bay Area and San Francisco is really about. So much is cultivated here at home."
At no other festival can one experience the best music while eating world-class food and drinking some of the finest and most interesting wines available today. Building on the success of last year's Winehaven tent, the 2009 event will present an incredible mix of 25 local winemakers who will be on hand to talk about their wines. Attendees will be able to try 75 different wines, served in stemless, recyclable Winehaven glasses. Along with the vintners being on hand, there will be winemaker barrel tasting seminars that will offer a one of a kind perspective on the winemaking process. This will take place in large, upright barrel booths for patrons to sit in during the tasting tutorials. A complete list of the wineries at the festival is below.
With A Taste of the Bay Area, Outside Lands offers the fans the opportunity to savor the greatest culinary delights of San Francisco's famously elite and adventurous cuisine. The festival will showcase locally grown produce from Pacific Coast Farmers Market Association, exceptionally delicious meats prepared with conscience from Fatted Calf, sustainably raised Hog Island Oysters pluck fresh daily from Tomales Bay. Local restaurants will also be on hand to serve their unique cuisine to patrons - burritos from Gordo's Taqueria, hamburgers from Burgermeister or Taylor's Refresher, spicy curry from Dosa, American cuisine from Mavericks, vegan and vegetarian food from Alive. A complete list of the restaurants at the festival is below.
"Outside Lands represents a special assemblage of fine music, food, wine and culture that contributes to the unique essence that is San Francisco," said Maverick's general manager Michael Pierce. "Participating again will surely be the highlight of our year."
Certainly a strong part of the unique essence of the city is it's deep reservoir of incredibly talented performers that live in its environs. To celebrate this, for the first time, festival producers are introducing "The Barbary" tent. Named for San Francisco's infamous Barbary Coast district, the tent will be hosted by San Francisco's theatrical-circus/variety group Vau de Vire Society and will showcase the finest local rock, cabaret, circus, variety and comedy acts. The tent itself is the world famous Victoria Spiegeltent, on loan from Belgium. The turn of the century "magic mirror tent" or "spiegeltent" is anything but a conventional circus tent, as its walls are made of oak-framed mirrors and ceiling adorned in stained glass.
