The early reviews are in, and 'Rave On' has inspired press to do just that. In an 8-out-of-10-star review, SPIN described Cee Lo's take on "(You're So Square) Baby, I Don't Care" as "so good it'll give you hiccups."
Guitar Player magazine's Matt Blackett wrote: "The songs are so great you’d have to try to screw them up, but the performers all pretty much kick ass here. Bonus points to My Morning Jacket, the Black Keys, and Nick Lowe for being respectful and gutsy at the same time. And the answer to the profoundly stupid question, 'Can Paul McCartney still bring it?' is answered with a Buddy-approved b**ch slap on 'It’s So Easy.'''
Rolling Stone praised the "giant sundae" of a tribute album, calling McCartney's take on "It's So Easy" "awesomely batsh*t."
'Rave On Buddy Holly' features a star-studded collection of artists including Paul McCartney, My Morning Jacket, Fiona Apple, Cee Lo Green, The Black Keys, Florence + The Machine, She & Him, Modest Mouse, Julian Casablancas, Lou Reed, Patti Smith, Nick Lowe and more.
