Jimmy Smith, the king of jazz organ, dies at 79

Jimmy Smith, the man who inspired generations of Hammond organ players in all styles of music, passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at his home in Pheonix, Arizona.

He had just returned home from playing at a jam session. He was at the top of his game, having just released a new CD with another master of the B-3, Joey DeFrancesco. The pair had been performing together, and had a tour planned. Our condolences go out to JJimmy's family and friends, and to players around the world whose lives were touched by his music.
