The Obsession Excellency V is a thing of beauty. No wonder, considering Jerzy Drozd dubs itself the “Bass Art Company.” Great art can come alive, as playing the Spanish-made Excellency demonstrates. Its ergonomic design seated the bass comfortably in front of my body, and the low setup made for a smooth journey across the fingerboard. The Drozd’s satin-finished flat-profile neck aids in navigation, as do the sleek-feeling ebony fingerboard and deep cutaway. The beautifully sculpted volute felt good under my hand. The headstock itself boasts a body-matching maple cap, including a matching trussrod cover, a handsome abalone logo inlay, and angled Gotoh tuners. The three-piece neck was snugly fit and firmly bolted to the body.
