Background Rand received a toy guitar at age five, but didn’t start playing seriously until his grandfather—blues guitarist Johnny Cooper—taught him a few chords two years later. “The rock and roll bug bit me the day I heard the distorted guitars of Van Halen and Kiss,” he recalls. Rand’s tasteful and impressive guitar playing features fast legato and wide-interval runs, speedy harmonized lines, and tapping—as well as considerable acoustic guitar skills. Rand’s career highlights include work on Van Hunt’s self-titled, Grammy-nominated release in 2004; stints on Victor Wooten’s Live in America Tour; and recording with the Black Eyed Peas.
