Six-String Masterpieces: The Dimebag Darrell Art Tribute is a charitable fine-art exhibit of over 45 Dean ML Guitars that have been hand-painted, illustrated and sculpted by many of America's favorite rock musicians, tattooists and visionary artists. These world-class artists have donated their time and talent to this tribute by creating original works of art on a guitar in support of music & art education.
This exhibit pays tribute to one of the all-time great guitar players, Dimebag Darrell Abbott of Pantera and Damage Plan, whose life was sadly cut short in an on-stage shooting December 8th, 2004. ‘Dime’ a multi-platinum, Grammy nominated artist who was loved and respected throughout the music industry. The artist list for this show is evidence of his influence and is of major marquee value. It is an incredible line-up of artists. This exhibit was recently featured on MTV2 and is getting ready to head out on tour with Ozzfest following this weekend’s installation in Emo's Lounge, July 14-16. It has recently shown in New York, Japan, London, Germany, Dallas, San Antonio and a smaller version of the exhibit came to Austin during SXSW.
This once in a lifetime art exhibit will eventually be auctioned off with the proceeds going to support music & art education initiatives in the name of Dimebag Darrell Abbott. So this is a very important project.
It is also the focus of a special 100 page issue of Guitar Player, due out at the end of July.
Six-String Masterpieces: The Dimebag Darrell Art Tribute will be on display as the centerpiece of a weekend long schedule of festivities.
We have a full weekend of live music and entertainment featuring performances by The Red Light Burlesque Troupe as well as The Quick and the Dead along with some late night DJ action on Friday, July 14 kicking off at 9pm.
Saturday, July 15 the Guitar Art exhibit will be open at 2pm and will be available for viewing the public all day and into the night. The Saturday night lineup is a night of Southern Fried Rock n’ Roll by Austin’s own Dixie Witch and The HillBilly Orchestra from Dallas, with a special guest appearance by Vinnie Paul of Pantera and Damage Plan to support the launch of his new record label, Big Vin Records, and the release of Dimevision Vol. 1 DVD (recently certified as Gold) and the excellent Rebel Meets Rebel CD (Pantera with David Allan Coe on vocals).
Sunday, July 16 the Gallery Lounge will open at 2pm and there will be a NAMM wrap-up party beginning at 7pm for the music industry contingency and it will be the last chance for the Austin crowd to see this must-see exhibit.
The weekend long event is sponsored by Guitar Player, BigVin Records, Dean Guitars, 101X, The Austin Chronicle, KLBJ and the Action Arts Agency.
