Guitar Player Launches Guitar Hero at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Guitar Player magazine, the world’s premier publication for guitarists and guitar fans, is launching its first annual Guitar Hero competition at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland on June 10, 2005.

Last year, Guitar Player asked its readers to submit tracks spotlighting their heroic chops. These tracks were judged by the GP editors, who whittled down thousands of entries to ten finalists. The “big ten” will perform at a stellar two-hour showcase in the Rock Hall’s auditorium on June 10, as part of the three-day CMJ/Rock MusicFest ( At the conclusion of the event, one player will be crowned as the 2005 Guitar Player Guitar Hero.

The event will be MC’d by Guitar Player Editor in Chief Michael Molenda, and will feature a panel of judges including Joe Satriani, Steve Lukather, his son Trevor Lukather (currently touring guitarist with Lindsay Lohan), GP editor Jude Gold, and a special guest!

The winner of the event will receive a mammoth gear package and get one of their own songs included on CMJ’s New Music Monthly CD reaching tens of thousands of music business executives and tastemakers across North America.
