Guitar Player is proud to announce that it will continue its long-standing tradition of helping consulting editor Jim Campilongo throw his annual holiday homecoming show, and that we will return to plush Yoshi’s San Francisco because last year Yoshi’s debut kicked major ass! Campilongo filled the City by the Bay’s finest jazz venue with a crowd full of guitar heads who studied his trademark Tele stunts such as manipulating harmonic notes via behind-the-nut bends with equal parts awe, envy, and appreciation.
Campilongo’s Tele respect has reached such a high level that Fender recently paid tribute to the country/rockabilly/jazz maestro by issuing a limited edition of Jim Campilongo Signature Top-Loader Telecasters (in white like Jim’s trademark ’59, or orange in honor of his raucous 2010 release, Orange) that zealous Tele freaks quickly snatched up. Watch video of GP’s Matt Blackett documenting Campilongo’s Tele preferences at the 2010 Winter NAMM show here.

Jim has collaborated with Norah Jones and the Little Willies since moving to NYC in 2003. Look for their second album For the Good Times on January 10th on venerable EMI/Blue Note Records. Watch Campilongo play “Gotta Get Drunk” with the Little Willies at the Living Room here.
Campilongo’s live credits include appearances on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” “Later with Jools Holland,” and the fresh NYC public television show “Groovable Feast.”
Campilongo’s show at Yoshi’s SF on December 18th will feature two very special guests. “Erik Deutsch (Charlie Hunter) will play organ with us on two tunes,” reveals Campilongo, “and the great Joe Goldmark (10 Gallon Cats) will sit in on steel guitar on the grand finale.”
Guitar Player is always happy to have one of San Francisco’s most inspiring guitarists home for the holidays, and is especially psyched to help Campilongo in his quest to fill Yoshi’s to the gills with gobs of great guitar cheer. Last year’s show was packed, so you might want to secure your seats immediately.
For East Coasters, GP highly recommends catching Campilongo’s mighty Monday night residency at the Living Room in New York City, where the likes of Nels Cline and Charlie Hunter are liable to sit in, and stars from Lou Reed to Patrick Stewart have shown up to watch.
