George Porter Jr. and the Original Meters Reunite and Rule At 2005 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival

In its 36th year, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, or “Jazzfest,” is still considered one of the premier concert series on the planet, and 2005’s first weekend proved why. The weather was postcard-perfect the entire time, a gigantic congregation of music lovers floated on air [and rivers of beer] from end to end of the fairgrounds, and the original Meters—New Orleans’ most influential act since Louis Armstrong—performed together in their home city for the first time in over two decades.
