Style: Hard rock, progressive rock
Influences: Ritchie Blackmore, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Randy Rhodes, Steve Vai.
Main Guitar: ’61 Fender Stratocaster
Location: Port St. Lucie, Florida
Background: Mitchell began teaching himself to play on a ’66 Gibson Melody Maker at age 12, and five years later he recorded his first record, Above and Below, followed by Fallen Moons in 1998. He began his professional career in the ’80s, and remains active on the Ft. Lauderdale music scene as a performer and teacher.
Mitchell’s 2005 release, Animator, has a progressive/psychedelic rock sound built on heavy riffs and guitar components. It’s reminiscent at times of Randy Rhoads, Steve Vai, Alex Lifeson, and Frank Marino, with a Ritchie Blackmore flavor in some of the neo-classical sections, and an Eastern feel resulting from his use of exotic scales and modes.
