Chet Atkins’ Breau deal

When it comes to being a “guitarist’s guitarist,” few people fit that category better than Lenny Breau. Perhaps that’s why another legendary player, Chet Atkins, dedicated an entire column to Breau’s pull-off technique in the March ’87 GP. “Lenny Breau had the strongest left-hand pinky I ever saw,” wrote Atkins, who provided this phrase as an example of how Breau dexterously zipped across the fretboard using string-crossing runs of pull-offs. “I use it in an arrangement of ‘Kentucky’ to get from an improv section back to to the tune.”
