Kinks founders Ray and Dave Davies shared a stage for the first time in 20 years last Friday, December 18, when Ray made an unexpected appearance at Dave’s London show.

The two performed the Kinks’ classic hit “You Really Got Me” at the Islington Assembly Hall before a surprised and thrilled audience. You can watch a clip of the performance below.

Ray showed up onstage toward the end of the show. “Your gift is wrapped under the Christmas tree,” he told Dave. “But unfortunately you’re banned from the house.”

The good-natured jibe was in reference to the brothers’ sometimes strained relationship, which has apparently been at the center of their inability to reunite the Kinks.

But all was fine between them at the show. Ray led the audience in a round of applause for Dave before taking the center-stage microphone at Dave’s urging. The pair shook hands at the end of the song before Ray left.

Dave later posted on his Facebook page, “I had a great time tonight in Islington. It was fun to play with Ray again.”
