This stunning 1999 Monteleone Grand Artist Tri Port was just on of dozens of priceless guitars on display at last nights gala opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s wonderful new exhibit Guitar Heroes: Legendary Craftsmen from Italy to New York.

The expertly curated exhibit, which runs until July 4, 2011, draws enlightening connections between the violin craftsmen of Cremona Italy like Antonio Stradivari and famed new york luthiers John D’Angelico, Jimmy D’Aquisto and John Monteleone. The guitars, which can be viewed front and back with few exceptions are beautifully displayed, and as one wanders the installation, one realizes that this may be the single most impressive collection of instruments that we guitar aficionados will get to see in one place during our lifetimes. A must see.
