Labor Day weekend isn’t here just yet, but we’re already starting to see some serious sales action for guitar players happening. One such discount is on one of my top-rated practice tools for guitarists, with the Positive Grid Spark Neo Core getting a massive 38% price reduction.

That’s $60 off an awesome silent practice option, great value for any guitar player. It’s a non-wireless option, so you need to plug a guitar cable into it, but it offers an immediacy that puts as few barriers between you and playing your guitar as possible.

With Labor Day set to arrive on September 7th, Sweetwater has seriously jumped the gun with the launch of its massive up-to-50% off sale. So far, it’s the first of the big music retailers to go live with a sale, making it the ideal place to bag an early Labor Day deal on guitar gear.

Okay, I know there are lots of guitars on offer. So, with that in mind, I thought I'd share my personal recommendations.

We’ve only just recovered from an absolutely massive 4th of July weekend for deals, but Guitar Center has seen fit to drop a brand new sale to tempt all guitar players. It’s in conjunction with Schecter Guitars, so the theme is very much geared towards lovers of heavy guitar music, but with up to 25% off a range of guitars, amps, and pedals, there really is something for everyone here.

The Memorial Day sales have only just died down, but Guitar Center has already seen fit to tempt us further with some sweet discounts on acoustic guitars hitting up to 30% off. The sale runs until June 24th, so you’ve got a whole month to cash in on the deals. I’ve had a look through the full sale, and the first thing to catch my eye was $100 off this Recording King RPH-R2-E Dirty 30s Minnie Bucker Resonator. Perfect for slide and delta blues, it features a hand-spun aluminium resonator and a mini humbucker, which makes it ideal for players who want to plug in and play live.

I covered this deal in the Memorial Day sales, and while there’s a little less off it now, I still reckon this Gibson J-45 Studio with $200 off is an excellent deal. I've already had a chance to look through the sale in its entirety, so I've picked out some of my favorite deals for you. Vintage Fender lovers definitely need to check out the deals on Vintera II guitars at the moment, with many of them now just below the $1,000 mark. My top pick is the Fender Vintera II 70s Strat, which has a very tempting $210 reduction, ideal if you like your Strats period correct.

For acoustic guitar lovers, there are some great deals on Martin guitars, and the Martin Special 000 Auditorium is an all-solid acoustic for below a grand, thanks to the $150 discount in the sale. Combining a Sitka spruce top and an all-solid sapele back and sides, it's a balanced instrument that can play many roles.

There are loads of great deals on Epiphone guitars, too, but my pick of the bunch is a massive $225 off this Epiphone Les Paul Standard 60s. It brings the guitar below the $500 mark, superb value if you want a classically spec'd LP guitar. It's got dual ProBucker pickups with Alnico II magnets for those PAF-inspired tones, as well as CTS pots and 50s wiring for an all-vintage tone.

On Black Friday I was raving about Fender.com's Player II Series Tele deal – and unsurprisingly, it has now sold out completely. But there is a great Cyber Monday guitar deal option elsewhere, it's not much more money and I think this darker Racing Green Player II Tele at Guitar Center for just $649.99 is actually a better finish than the Fender.com deal's Forest Green.

I reckon this one will sell out too. You get all the great Player II features here that make the series the best buy in Fender's catalogue: rosewood fingerboard with rolled edges on a C-shape neck that's a benchmark for comfort, ClassicGear tuners like the US models and Alnico 5 pickups that blend traditional Tele twang with some low-end versatility. I'm a Fender modder and even I'd think twice about ever swapping them out.

I've been focusing on what I consider to be truly great guitar deals for Cyber Monday, and this is the one I think is the best right now. It's surely going to sell out like the Fender.com has. It's only $50 than what Guitar Center is charging for the Indonesia-made Fender Standard Telecaster!

Klon Centaur-style overdrive pedals are a constant obsession with us guitar players for a reason – they're incredibly versatile. An always-on sweetener, boost, drive, and great gain stacker with other pedals. And now I've found my favourite with the Wampler Tumnus, I couldn't be without it. I'd happily pay double, but now it's hitting a new low in price at Sweetwater for the next few days for $127.49, it's an absolute Cyber Week bargain.

The Wampler Tumnus is rated 5/5 by Guitar Player, and was good enough to win an Andertons blind test against an actual Klon, as well as a host of worthy klone competition. But that's not the only reason I depend on it as a guitarist.

It's much smaller than some of finest klone's around – positively tiny compared to its closest competition from the RYRA, Centavo and Centura. That means I get all the advantages, but have more space on my pedalboard for more pedals.

I use the Tumnus to stack with my Funny Little Boxes 1991 pedal for heavy drive, but the Tumnus always on with the gain dialed down for the mid-boost klones are known for – I'll then clean up as needed with my guitar volume pot. Brian Wampler has dialled in a wide sweep for the three controls here for maximum versatility, and I find the treble control can really help my stacked drive tones cut though with humbuckers in a band. And because it's a USA-made Wampler pedal, I know the components won't let me down.

And if you fancy spending a little more for added controls and a bigger footprint, the Tumnus Deluxe is discounted too – coming in with $30 off for a very tempting $169.97 .

SansAmp was way ahead of the game with the amp pedal concept, and the likes of Nuno Bettencourt have gigged its ready-made pedalboards under the Tech 21 banner. The Mop Top Liverpool is its take on British Invasion amp tones of the Beatles and beyond, but how it's hit the low, low price of $99 down from $249 over at Sweetwater for Black Friday is beyond me.

That's 60% off the price of a lot of analog pedal, and the Sweetwater listing states that there are no restocks coming for this bargain – when it's gone, that's it.

Though it's not quite the Sweetwater bargain price, European players can take advantage over at Thomann for £133 (plus delivery) and the UK's Gear For Music even has a couple left at £139. Still a very significant saving.

The inspiration is unquestionably the Vox AC 30 for this two-channel amp pedal. It also has built-in speaker emulation to go straight to a PA or FRFR cab, – alternatively, you can just bypass it to go straight into a power or guitar. The Mop Top Liverpool is perfect for a light to fit in your gigbag rig or backup option.

The onboard switchable treble boost is your gateway to Brian May-style gain glory here. A three-band EQ with mid shift and high control makes it a user-friendly way to dial in your sound. With the two channels at your feet this could handle a whole gig, not bad for just $99!

The Mop Top Liverpool might just be the dark horse bargain of Black Friday.

Working as a guitar reviews editor, this year has been filled with some very, very good gear to test. But my personal favourite of 2025 isn't a guitar, pedal or an amp – well, it's kind of all those things, actually. After I saw it reduced by $50 here at Sweetwater in the Cyber Monday sales, I honestly want to spread the word to more people about just how good the ToneWoodAmp 2 is for acoustic guitar players. This is a 5/5 piece of kit and it's inspired me to play my acoustic much more this year.

European and UK players can benefit too, because the ToneWoodAmp2 is reduced over at Thomann too.

If you own an acoustic guitar, I think this thing is the most inspiring thing you can ever put on it. I am confident you'll spend more time playing because of how good it sounds – as well as great usability.

The ToneWoodAmp magnetically fixes to the back of your acoustic via bracing fixed inside (it's easy to fit – I did it in minutes) and plugs into your guitar's preamp input. Then the magic starts; it gives you reverb, delay. tremolo and modulation (chorus, flanger, phaser) effects through your guitar's soundhole, with a pedal or amp needed.

The first ToneWoodAmp was good, but the sequel has improved upon it in every conceivable way for me; it's smaller, with a rechargeable internal battery (10 hours life) and now has its own app. But the highlight is still those glorious effects – of which you can run four simultaneously.

I'll be honest, I can be cynical about guitar gear that relies on apps but ToneWoodAmp's proves just how good the combo can be because it unlocks the device's other capabilities as a powerful preamp for live gigs – they've really designed this side of things to give you a great live sound. It's really an incredible piece of kit, and proves its worth at home or the stage. Check out acoustic maestro Mike Dawes above showing what the TonewoodAmp2 can be.

But the best thing is when using the effects you don't need to touch the app if you don't want to – the unit itself offers plenty of controls to shape your sounds. And I would absolutely concur with Mike Dawe's admission that he can't play his acoustic guitar without it now. No wonder he wrote his last album with it!

Update: This deal has now sold out. But the good news is the Player II Tele deal below is currently available and is currently the cheapest I've found.

I'm not sure how controversial it is to say this, but I think Fender might have created a problem with its Player II Series Telecaster – especially in the Black Friday guitar deals. I've found them to be so good for the money, I wonder if many players will think it's worth paying more for the company's more expensive models. Now I've seen one with $252 off at Fender.com and I honestly can't believe it.

A $50 discount I could understand, but $190 is huge for a Player II Fender – and in an exclusive, classy Forest Green finish, third-party guitar retailers can't stock? Even more incredible.

The rosewood fingerboard with rolled edges is a huge upgrade from the Player line, giving the Player II Tele neck an incredibly smooth and tactile feel. The ClassicGear tuners are the other big upgrade for me – as found on much more expensive US models.

The pair of Alnico 5 pickups surprised me as someone who is big on upgrading their Ensenada Fender models – I'm not sure I'd bother paying extra to swap them out as Fender's stock models are so usable, especially with my own rig where stacked overdrive pedals are a central part.

Part of my job as a Reviews Editor is I see and play a lot of guitars, more specifically, I test them. You'll often see older electric guitar stock in the Black Friday deals as retailers make way for new models – great deals but not the latest specs. So imagine my surprise to see this year's PRS SE NF53 not just get a decent reduction over at Sweetwater, but a whole $200.

When it comes to delay and reverb pedal bargains in this year's Black Friday deals, I honestly can't see it getting any better than this. The Walrus Audio Mako Series D1 Delay and R1 Reverb are the most fully-featured compact pedals of their kind that I've tried and are now $200 off at Sweetwater, making them just $149.99 each. They're bona fide pedal bargains!

You're going to read this a lot over the weekend, but I really mean it with this deal – I can't see Sweetwater's stock not selling out of these. While Mk II versions of both pedals are out now, these Mk 1 pedals are both still highly impressive and offer more sounds than you will probably ever need.

For the guitarist who isn’t interested in traditional instruments, I’ve got a super Black Friday guitar deal for you. It’s a mega discount on a guitar that’s all about comfort and playability, eschewing traditional design in the pursuit of technological advancement.

I’ll admit I was skeptical before I first got my hands on one, so when it came into the office for review I wasn’t really expecting much. Flash forward five minutes and I found I couldn’t put it down. I’ve honestly never played anything like it, and while I get that headless guitars aren’t for everyone, you’ll be doing yourself a disservice not trying one.

I’ve been playing guitar for over twenty years now, so it’s pretty rare that a piece of gear completely takes me by surprise. That was exactly the case with the Boden Essential though. At first I found the EndurNeck profile quite alien in my hands, thanks to the wide flat strip that runs down the centre of the roasted maple neck.

It’s like playing a really extreme ‘V’ profile, but cleverly, it gives your thumb a platform to always be placed flat, which encourages better playing technique. This design reduces strain on your wrist by forcing you to keep your thumb as the anchor for your fretting hand. Once I got over the initially strange feel, I was soon flying across the fretboard with three-note-per-string legato licks aplenty.

The body is different from anything else I’ve tried too. Again, the shape looks very strange, but it's actually cleverly designed so you can place the guitar on either leg, or in the classical position for proper shredability. It’s lightweight too, so you can easily chuck it in a gig bag and take it to shows with you, or bring on a train or plane.

When wearing it on a guitar strap you can hardly feel it’s there, and the lack of a headstock means there’s far less chance of stabbing your singer or bassist, even when playing on a tiny stage. For me the size and weight add to the overall performance of the guitar, tying in beautifully with the playability to make one of the most all-round ergonomic experiences I’ve ever had playing an electric guitar.

I’ve tested the Nano Cortex personally and it’s one of the most powerful pieces of guitar hardware around right now. It’s also incredibly popular, which means there’s not much reason for Neural to discount them right now so I don’t expect one to crop up over Black Friday. If you want one though, the free plugin is a great way to get some extra value from your purchase, and you get some extra sounds for your tone locker.

I’ve met a fair few players who’ve permanently swapped over to Neural modeling hardware, and we gave it a full five stars out of five in our Neural DSP Nano Cortex review, which tells you a lot. It’s great for players who don’t want to ditch their pedalboard, but want the convenience a modeler gets you when playing live shows.

There’s no screen like the bigger Quad Cortex has, which is admittedly a slight hurdle when you’re first getting used to it. It doesn’t take long to find your way around the pedal’s controls though, and you can use the companion app in lieu of a screen for fine-tuning settings. You can also pretty aptly control it using the knobs and buttons once you learn what everything does.

It’s also super compact, which makes it a great option for a travel or practice rig. It’s lightweight weight so you can easily chuck it into a backpack, and as well as being powered by a traditional pedalboard power supply, you can also run it off a 5V USB-C. Simply put, it’s an incredibly versatile piece of equipment.

You know what? I genuinely get excited when Black Friday rolls around, especially when there's a slew of Gibson and Epiphone deals to sink my teeth into. Fender’s been absolutely killing it in the last decade, with player-focused innovations and variations on its quintessential library of era-defining instruments. Its Player series launched as a retooled umbrella for Fender’s Made-in-Mexico guitars, continuing a well-established reputation of incredible quality and accessible pricing. It took the opportunity to level things up a little, too, with juicier aesthetic choices and some player-focused tweaks for a faster and fun-er guitar right out of the box.

As far as ‘exemplary’ goes in this regard, there’s no better set of instruments to look at than the Player II-series Stratocaster and Telecaster. Both benefit from the same essential approach and build choices, not to mention the same arrestingly-sick visual presentation. What a joy – nay, what a privilege, then, to find such alluring examples on sale at a 30% discount, direct from Fender’s own Black Friday sale.

The discounted axes on offer are a Stratocaster and Telecaster each in Forest Green, a richly verdant green with just the right amount of smokiness. They’re by no means traditional-looking, but they are indeed fetching! Eye-catching color aside, both are actually quite traditional in design – keeping more to older iterations than to newer innovations (save for a more modern string-through-body bridge on the Tele).

Both of these Player II-series guitars benefit from a maple neck and slab rosewood fretboard, itself inlaid with 22 medium jumbo frets. The neck is shaped to modern C profile, a pet project of Fender’s that has resulted in some serious playability; between this and the medium jumbo frets, there’s an excellent balance of articulation and speed.

Both also benefit from a set of Fender’s own Alnico V single-coils, which serve each well in their own signal sound. The Player II Strat has all the attack you could ask for in the bridge, and all the honk you know and love in the neck (and, of course, everything in-between thanks to the classic 5-way switch); meanwhile, the Player II Tele maintains the glorious twang of its siblings. It’s not every day you get a gen-u-wine MiM Fender for less than 600 bucks – and if it was, every day would be the best day ever. Act accordingly!
