GP and Eddie Roberts (New Mastersounds) Present The Payback Benefit, Sept. 25 in SF—Win Tickets!

September 11, 2015

Guitar Player, Positive Legacy, and Eddie Roberts (New Mastersounds) Present The Payback Benefit for Compass Family Services on September 25 at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco—Win Tickets!

New Mastersounds guitarist Eddie Roberts is a groove guru with a gritty, streetwise sensibility rarely found among modern jazz players. Roberts is also hip on helping people that are stuck living in the streets, and he put together the Payback in order to help San Francisco’s homeless.

Guitar Player is helping raise awareness about the cause and the shows at the Great American Music Hall on Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26. A GP Presents promotion will be in effect onsite Friday night with free magazines, D’Addario strings, Planet Waves accessories, and a raffle to win a Mesa/Boogie Flux Drive. There will also be a silent auction for an Epiphone Casino.

Roberts is a hollowbody enthusiast whose guitar style incorporates the sexy cool of soul jazz icon Grant Green crossed with the kind of syncopated funk of Leo Nocentelli threw down in the Meters during the late '60s and early '70s. Meters drummer Zigaboo Modeliste will provide funky beats for the Payback band, which will also include bass master Reed Mathis (Tea Leaf Green), keyboardist Robert Walter (Greyboy Allstars), plus many more top shelf players and singers.

The Payback benefit concerts have raised tens of thousands of dollars over the past two years in both San Francisco and Denver. The San Francisco Payback will support Compass Family Services, an organization whose mission is to help homeless families and families at imminent risk for homelessness to achieve housing stability, family well being, and self sufficiency.

Guitar Player Presents is proud to help Eddie Roberts and Positive Legacy with the Payback at the historic Great American Music Hall. It’s located near San Francisco’s Tenderloin District where Roberts lived for a spell, and where homelessness continues to be a huge challenge.

Come jazz the funk out with a fab group of players, and do your part to assist the less fortunate. Make sure to put a bid in on the silent auction for an Epiphone Casino played by Roberts, and autographed by the whole Payback band.

Watch Eddie Roberts and Soulive’s Eric Krasno get deep into groove guitar goodness (Roberts is on left):
