Guitar Player Presents Steve Morse Band in San Francisco at Slim's January 20—Win Tickets! After being voted Best Overall Guitar Player by the readers of Guitar Player magazine five consecutive years in the mid ’80s for his flabbergasting fusion fretwork in the Dixie Dregs, Steve Morse’s jersey was retired to the Gallery of the Greats so that someone else could have a shot at the title. But Morse has never rested on his laurels, or feared a challenge. He started up his solo band before replacing Kerry Livgren in Kansas, and then succeeding Ritchie Blackmore as Deep Purple's lead guitarist from 1994 to the present. Last year, Morse found time to release another batch of expansive six-string goodness with his band, and they are touring in support. GP Presents is extremely proud to help promote Morse's show in San Francisco at Slim’s.Morse described what audiences could expect to hear to New York Times contributor Phillip Lutz, who wrote: “Morse, 55, said the show would draw liberally on high-energy sounds from his extensive discography, with selections ranging from ‘Ice Cakes’ (string-popping country funk from the 1978 album What If) to ‘Name Dropping’ (an unabashed rocker with a few sly twists from his latest CD, Out Standing in Their Field). He will leaven the set, he said, with ballads and low-key contrapuntal interplay. Having toured on classical and steel string guitar with fusion masters John McLaughlin and Al Di Meola, and flamenco virtuoso Paco De Lucia, Morse has more than a modicum of low-decibel material in his songbook.”Joining Morris onstage will be long time bassist Dave Leroux, and drummer Van Romain. Please join Guitar Player Presents and Slim’s as we welcome one of the true guitar greats and his band to one of the best rock venues on the West Coast.
