WhyHunger--an organization seeking to end hunger and poverty by connecting people to nutritious, affordable food, and by supporting grassroots solutions that inspire self-reliance and community empowerment--has kicked off Hungerthon 2012, its annual fundraising campaign.

WhyHunger was formed in 1975 by Harry Chapin and longtime NYC radio host Bill Ayres, and has raised over $13 million to date. What began as a simple commitment between two friends to make a difference has grown into an award-winning global non-profit, leading the movement to end hunger and poverty and creating a just and sustainable food system. From humble beginnings, WhyHunger remains committed to the belief that everyone deserves access to nutritious, affordable food and that together we can truly make a difference.
