VIEUX FARKA TOURE IS THE SON OF THE LATE Ali Farka Toure, one of the world's most unique and innovative guitarists. He performed with his five-piece band at The Independent on July 18, 2009, to a packed house of enthusiastic fans. After driving all the way from Bend, Oregon, the band was still a little weary at sound check, but they nonetheless managed to knock out this Band of Gypsies-like rocker. Note that Vieux and rhythm guitarist Aly Magassa play using only their thumbs and index fingers. Toure will be featured in the November 2009 issue of Guitar Player.
Toure evokes shades of Jimi during his sound check in San Francisco.
