Alfred Music Publishing, world leader in educational print music publishing since 1922, releases The Total Beginning Guitarist, a fun and comprehensive beginning guitar method featuring rock, blues, and jazz styles, by Rich Hinman and Amanda Monaco.
The Total Beginning Guitarist features an engaging and thorough approach to guitar lessons, teaching everything a novice needs to know to start playing easy chords and songs right away. The warm and encouraging style of the authors help motivate even the most casual hobbyist. This user-friendly method covers subjects ranging from chord strumming and fingerstyle to basic lead guitar and improvisation. Lessons include basic scales, a wide variety of songs in various styles, and different types of chords—including power chords and barre chords. Tips on proper posture and correct left- and right-hand technique are included, as well as a comprehensive chord encyclopedia featuring the most common chord forms for beginners.

The included CD contains recordings of the examples in the book, which results in a more enjoyable and multi-sensory learning experience.

As part of Alfred’s ongoing commitment to improving the environment, the book is printed on 100% recycled paper.

Rich Hinman graduated from Yale University in 2001 and has since performed guitar in numerous rock, pop, blues, and country bands. He currently plays with the rock band Black Lab Project, as well as the acoustic pop band Crescent and Frost. Guitar teacher and performer Amanda Monaco divides time between her jazz quartet and her all-girl “new generation cabaret” quartet, The Lascivious Biddies.
