The Sadies Announce U.S. Tour Dates

June 7, 2012
imgThe Sadies will be hitting the road this summer in support of their latest release, Night and Day (Yep Roc records), which reunites them with cult soul singer Andre Williams. The North American dates include a Toronto appearance at the NXNE festival with Andre on June 15 as well as late June/July US dates (scroll down for a list of dates).

Andre Williams, the man behind such risque classics as "Jailbait" and "Bacon Fat" in the 1950s and "Shake a Tailfeather," is aided by a stellar cast of musical friends and dirty bluesers on Night and Day, including Jon Spencer and Matt Verta-Ray of Heavy Trash, Danny Kroha of Detroit's own gutter-blues superheroes, The Gories, the unsinkable Mekon, Jon Langford, and backing vocals by Mekon Sallie Timms and vocalist Kelly Hogan (Neko Case). The Sadies lineup of Dallas Good on guitars and keys, his brother Travis Good on guitars and fiddle, Mike Belitsky on drums, and the mighty Sean Dean on the bass provides the music - guitars, fiddle, and their unique blend psych, Spaghetti Western and twang. Check out Andre and the Sadies live in Brooklyn in 2011 doing "Bad Motherfu**er."

The sessions began in 2008 at Key Club Studio in Detroit and capture Andre, then 70 years old and still using at the time, at his most raw, honest, and  immediate. No filter. Andre had the last laugh and cleaned up, but he sure wasn't clean then and he doesn't pull any punches in these songs. It's a raw, straight-up dose of Andre and it's affecting - a lot of anger and raunchy humor but it's also a dark view of the African-American experience from someone of Andre's generation (he's now 75).

The Toronto quartet, who won a Juno award this year for best music video with "Rumbleseat,” a spooky, Ennio Morricone-esque track, have made side career as the go-to band of choice for artists such as Neko Case, Jon Langford, John Doe and others. Their blistering musicianship and love of all musical genres has found the band on tour with artists ranging from Kurt Vile to Fucked Up.  Live, the Sadies are as likely to throw in garage-psych nuggets as high lonesome classics with their originals.
