Age: 21Style: Classical metal/progressiveInfluences: Yngwie Malmsteen, George Lynch, Kelly SimonzMain Guitar: ESP 31-fretLocation: Hollywood, California
Background: Minamino was born and raised in Japan, and began playing violin at age four. Ten years later, he also developed a keen interest in the guitar, and attended G.I.T. in Japan, where he studied under Kelly Simonz. Still driven to expand his technique, Minamino relocated to Los Angeles to attend G.I.T. Hollywood, where he studied with shred-guitar prodigy Joy Basu.
On Minamino’s recent demo, he lays down a barrage of blinding neo-classical chops in a context of highly composed pieces that fall somewhere between Yngwie Malmsteen, Tony MacAlpine, and Jason Becker. Minamino’s sense of melody and melodic phrasing, vibrato, and speed chops are all highly developed.
