San Diego Music Thing music and media conference announces band lineup

If you are looking for bands that are buzzing like a beehive, it’s time to head out to beautiful San Diego, California this September 13 and 14. The San Diego Music Thing (SDMT) is proud to announce several critically acclaimed bands to its lineup this year. The musicians hail from all around the United States as well as from the UK and some difficult decisions will need to be made when deciding which evening showcases to attend.

The San Diego Music Thing is honored to host many great acts including re-united 90s critically acclaimed band Medicine which will be releasing a new album in August. Sonic Youth co-founder Kim Gordon’s new project with free-noise guitarist Bill Nace is called Body/Head and they will be performing at the conference. Other media darling bands scheduled to appear include New York-based Fat Possum recording artists Caveman which were recently lauded by Pitchfork for their self-titled release and Virginia band Wild Nothing which recently caught the interest of NPR’s national music division. Rolling Stone called Glen Rock, NJ’s Titus Andronicus’ Local Business album “... a hilarious gut-wrenching mess that relocates the Replacements and Thin Lizzy at their most bracing and bighearted to the suburban skate-park diaspora…” New York’s Ra Ra Riot, Barsuk recording artists, are also a press favorite.

One man show Brooklyn-based Travis Egedy who is known as Pictureplane was recently lauded for his live show by Seattle’s beloved NPR station and music authority KEXP. Los Angeles punk band FIDLAR (the name stands for f**k it dog, life’s a risk) features guitarist Elvis and his brother Max on drums. The siblings are the offspring of T.S.O.L. keyboardist Greg Kuehn. Other notable acts added to the evening showcases include Beat Club, Bleeding Rainbow, In The Valley Below, Leftover Cuties, The Album Leaf, The Features, Tommy and the High Pilots, and Wardell.

The fun doesn’t just happen in the evening, however. Badge holders will have access to all daytime events at the conference’s host hotel, the Sheraton Mission Valley located at 1433 Camino Del Rio South in San Diego, as well as to the evening music showcases. The day schedule includes featured speakers presentations, panels, mentoring and interactive sessions as well as the Instrument Petting Zoo where attendees can play with various manufacturers’ gear. Super badge holders will also have access to daytime pop up live performances and artist sessions with Lol Tolhurst (The Cure) and Scott Page (Pink Floyd) and other artists to be announced, as well as marquee nighttime showcases.

This year’s featured speakers include Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth) and Mike Herrera (MxPx).
