Pro Tools DVD: Volume I

September 19, 2005

Like most guitar players, I have an aversion to instruction manuals—particularly when they weigh in at the size of some cities’ phonebooks. Facing the daunting 600 pages of printed text that came with my Pro Tools LE software (and remember, this is just Digidesign’s entry-level version of the program!), I needed a shortcut and found this instructional DVD to be immensely helpful. Ken Walden—an experienced engineer and musician who worked at Digidesign for years—guides the viewer through essential Pro Tools setup and operation protocols, as well as shares some of his favorite and most often-used shortcuts, such as using the “Command/Control +E” function to zoom in on a specific area of the edit window, or engaging the “a…z” option in order to use key commands without having to hit the Command (Mac) or Control (Windows) button first. Pro Tools DVD: Volume I does not reveal oodles of crazy insider secrets about Pro Tools, nor does it wholly replace the print manual; however, it is an excellent resource that relates loads of significant Pro Tools information in a very musician-friendly manner. Secrets of the Pros.
