When Primus says something is abstract, you should believe them. This rockumentary of their 2003 tour is an intriguing look into their bizarre world with lots of arresting images, fascinating backstage and interview footage, and cool concert montages. What this release doesn’t feature, however, is complete performances. (Primus delivered on that score with their previous DVD Hallucino-Genetics Live 2004.) Most of the tunes here are broken up with quotes from the band and interspersed with soundcheck footage. It still makes for compelling visuals, though, and would be a cool and disturbing backdrop to play on infinite loop during a party. Although this DVD is pretty much just for Primus completists, fans of guitarist Larry LaLonde will still get to see him work his quirky magic on Strats, SGs, and PRS McCartys plugged into a Marshall/Vox backline. LaLonde’s interviews prove to be just as interesting as his playing as he talks about the band and his own playing with a charmingly unaffected ease. He sums up his musical philosophy with a quote for the ages: “If you’ve heard it somewhere else, why do it?” (Frizzle Fry Inc.) —Matt Blackett
