PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY PRESENTS A CLASSICAL GUITAR MASTER CLASS WITH CHRISTOPHER PARKENING

The Pepperdine University Fine Arts Division will present a classical guitar master class with internationally renowned guitarist Christopher Parkening on Saturday, September 18, from 2-6 p.m. in Pepperdine's Raitt Recital Hall, 24255 Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.

Besides being celebrated as one of the world's preeminent virtuosos of the classical guitar, Parkening is a Distinguished Professor of Music and chair of the Guitar Department at Pepperdine. For more than a quarter century, his concerts and recordings have received the highest worldwide acclaim. The Los Angeles Times noted, "Parkening is considered America's reigning classical guitarist, carrying the torch of his mentor, the late Andres Segovia."
June 2006 saw the launch of the Parkening International Guitar Competition, honoring Parkening's lifetime commitment to fostering musical excellence in young artists. The competition featured performers from around the world and bestowed the largest prize purse of any other guitar competition. The most recent competition was held in May 2009 at Pepperdine.
