March 23, 2006

Also on the bill are acoustic Son Volt, Todd Snider and a special electric set by Danny Barnes. In addition, Umphrey's McGee's Brendan Bayliss will team up with YMBS's Jeff Austin for the first ever public performance of these longtime friends and musical colleagues. Meanwhile, Nickel Creek's Chris Thile will be on site for all three days of the festival for several surprise sit-ins, and will host the famed String Summit Super Jam. Always a String Summit highlight, past year's Super Jam performers have included David Grisman, Vasser Clements, Hot Rize, Jerry Douglas and Tim O'Brien.

On Friday evening (August 25), String Summit presents the fourth annual Band Contest, where four competition finalists will compete for the opportunity to perform on the main stage the following year.

The tree-lined landscape of Horning's Hideout is the perfect serene setting for an intimate weekend of all acoustic music. Located just 20 minutes west of Portland and nestled in a hidden canyon of the rolling hills, dense trees and peacocks, Horning's Hideout is truly one of Oregon's best kept secrets. All ages are welcome and children under 10 years old are free with a paying adult. Three-day festival passes include music, crafts and vending, and plenty of on-site camping and parking. A family/disabled camping area is available. Tickets are $115 - $135.00 and are on sale now at www.musictoday.com. For more information and ticketing links visit the official NWSS website at www.stringsummit.com.

Yonder Mountain String Band just released a self-titled studio album on Vanguard Records. For the album YMSB joined forces with stellar rock producer, Tom Rothrock (James Blunt, Beck, Elliott Smith). The band took their blend of banjo/bass/mandolin/guitar and, for the first time, added some drums to the mix. The recording features twelve tracks that highlight the band's transition into more folk/rock territories and exploring different sounds and ways of songwriting. The result is a hugely original modern folk style with a strong bluegrass foundation.
