As a student, ensemble chair, ear training Chair, Dean of Performance division, and current Vice President of International Studies, Monroe has been involved in Berklee College of Music's unique musical educational program for over 40 years. As a prominent musician, Monroe's views on expression are well-known throughout the community. Noting the tendency of young players to concentrate solely on their craft, and the lack of emphasis placed on expressive qualities, Jazz Expression a Toolbox for Improvisation aims to give students the devices needed to develop their expressive abilities.
