New Coheed and Cambria Album Streaming Now

Rolling Stone exclusively premiered the much-anticipated new album The Afterman: Ascension, from modern-progressive rockers Coheed and Cambria today, before it’s official release tomorrow via Hundred Handed/Everything Evil. Click here to stream volume one of the band’s double album! The band’s explosive first single, “Domino the Destitute,” as well as the haunting, delicate track “The Afterman,” are included on the album (track-listing below).  Also premiered by Rolling Stone last week,“The Afterman,” remained one of the “most popular” news stories on the site for over a week!

True to Coheed's restlessly exploratory nature, the nine-track Ascension finds the New York-based band—singer-guitarist Claudio Sanchez, guitarist Travis Stever, bassist Zach Cooper and drummer Josh Eppard—staking out exciting new ground. "With all of our previous albums, my thing was always figuring out how to fit my life into the Amory Wars concept," Sanchez says. "I knew where each one sat in terms of the story. Whereas with this one, I allowed my life—my experiences and what I was going through—to frame the concept."

Self-produced by the band with Michael Birnbaum and Chris Bittner (who both helmed the band’s first three albums), Sanchez credits the expansive musical vibe of the album—which moves from the lullaby-like strains of“The Hollow” to the driving, riff-heavy “Mothers of Men” to the deeply funky “Evagria the Faithful”—to the freedom he had while writing over the course of the last two years. It’s a freedom, he points out, that came as a result of the band’s working independently for the first time in many years. “When you write a record in a month and a half, you have the same mentality throughout the entire process,” he says. “But when you allow yourself time, your mindset changes and that influences your creativity. It gives you dramatic ups and downs, and I think that’s invaluable.”

In support of tomorrow’s release, Coheed and Cambria will perform a SOLD OUT show at Revolution in Amityville, NY for fans who pre-purchased the album from Looney Tunes CDs, as well as headline a sold out intimate show at New York’s Webster Hall on October 11th, followed by signings and appearances at New York’s Comic Con on October 12th & 13th. Fans can visit Evil Ink’s comic booth (#1312) at Jacob Javits Center Friday, October 12 at 5pm for the band’s signing, while Sanchez and his wife will also be on hand Saturday, October 13 at 4pm. Following the release week the band will continue across the states on tour, wrapping up at Voodoo Festival in New Orleans. Expect volume two of the double album to be released in February 2013.

About The Afterman:  The first volume from the double-album charts Sirius’ sci-fi journey into the stars of the alternate universe known well by Coheed fans as “Heaven’s Fence.” Upon entering “the Keywork,” the blue gaseous energy force that powers these worlds, Amory stumbles upon the Afterlife. In his first confrontation with a soul, “Domino the Destitute” possesses Sirius, who is forced to relive the frenetic events that had occurred in Domino’s waking life. The second volume, ’Descension’ follows Sirius’ return to his home planet after a long absence and the negative effects that follow.

About The Amory Wars: Created by guitarist/singer/songwriter Claudio Sanchez, The Armory Wars is a cosmic narrative spanning five concept albums, countless comic books, and a novel co-written by Peter David. It's become a defining tale for hundreds of thousands of dedicated Coheed fans, who devour and dissect each new chapter with an ardor to rival followers of Lost or Game of Thrones. Mark Wahlberg and Steve Levinson will produce the live-action film version.
