Now, 12 semifinalist winners from each of Music Nation’s three genres — rock, pop and urban — go head to head in hopes of moving on to the final round. With judges like Joel and Benji Madden of Good Charlotte, producer Howard Benson (rock), producer Jonathan “J.R.” Rotem, Charlie Walk, President of Epic Records (pop), and multi-platinum rappers Nelly and The Game as well as Mark Pitts, President of Urban Music at Jive Records (urban), the Music Nation competition has been a chance for unsigned acts to have their music heard by some of the premier figures in the music industry.
From now until May 13th, the public will vote and the judges will make their picks from the semifinalist group. The finals will begin on May 14th after six artists – two from each genre – are chosen to move forward. This last week will determine the three winners – one from each genre – who will be announced on May 21st and be awarded the ultimate prize: a global recording contract with Epic Records. The winners will also be showcased on an episode of STRIPPED, Clear Channel Radio’s exclusive in-studio performance series, and a year-long endorsement from Gibson Guitars, among other prizes.
The Music Nation semifinalists come from all over the country, representing different sounds and styles that range from pop/punk to hip hop, R&B to indie rock, pop chanteuses to singer/songwriters. The contest, which launched on January 29th, has attracted nearly 2,500 videos from some of the most talented unsigned acts across the country.
