John Lee Hooker Birthday Tribute

July 15, 2005

Hooker was an American original with a lowdown boogie style that lies at the very heart of the blues and all the great blues- and boogie-based rock that followed. The late legend’s birthday is August 22nd, and Guitar Player is paying tribute the following night, Tues. August 23rd. Hooker band alumni Rich Kirch (guitar), Larry Martin (drums), Chuck Trujillo (bass), and Steve Gatz (harp), will be there to honor their former leader, as will bassist Henry Oden and harp master Big Bones (Joe Louis Walker). The all-star outfit will perform two sets of authentic Hooker material at the Boom Boom Room, the club Hooker co-owned until his passing in 2001. Special guests include former P-Funk guitarist Eric McFadden and more.
