Jamey Arent

October 20, 2005

Age: 18
Style: Blues, jazz, funk, soul, rock
Influences: Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Meters, Grant Green, Robben Ford
Main Guitars: Fender Stratocaster, Gibson ES-335
Location: Greenwood, Colorado

Background: Arent began playing at age 12, after being inspired by a Beatles movie. Soon after, he became interested in blues, jazz, and fusion, eventually absorbing stylistic elements from Wes Montgomery, Steve Cropper, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Robben Ford. Arent currently plays with the Colorado All-State Jazz Band, he won the 2005 Downbeat student award for Best Blues/Pop/Rock Soloist, and he’s performed at notable venues such as B.B. King’s in Memphis.

Arent’s demo reveals him to be a stunning player with a style some might call “bluesion”—straddling blues, jazz, and rock—and he has the ability to take long solos that are head-and-shoulders above most Stevie Ray Vaughanabees. There are lots of young guitarists who one day will likely be great, but 18-year-old Arent is already great.
