In a one-time intensive study, John Hartmann, whose legendary career as an agent and personal manager helped shape those of super stars Sonny & Cher, Peter, Paul & Mary, Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills & Nash and the Eagles among others, will be joined by two other successful music business executives demonstrating how to design, build and maintain enduring careers in the music industry.
"We will illustrate the seven things you need to know about navigating the music industry," Hartmann said. “This study is designed to build a common vision and a shared vernacular for artists, managers, agents, producers, lawyers, accountants, publicists and tour managers. We literally give them a map, a Holodgim, to follow in pursuit of their career in entertainment and that guide alone, I’ve been told, is worth the price of admission."
Joining Hartmann to share his wisdom is songwriter, producer and music publisher, Steve Lindsey, whose publishing catalogue includes such mega-hits as Eminem's The Real Slim Shady, 50 Cent's In Da Club and Mary J. Blige's Family Affair. Partnered with Aftermath Records A&R Chief Mike Lynn, Steve is co-founder and President of Ego Entertainment, placing music in numerous major motion pictures, TV shows and commercials including jingles for Pepsi, McDonalds and A.T.&T. Lindsey's producer credits also includes such luminaries as Marvin Gaye, Leonard Cohen, Aaron Neville and Celine Dion.
Completing the triumvirate is Corrina Clover Miller, Esq. A graduate of Loyola Law School. Corrina is also co-manager of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame artist Jackson Browne, and manager to folk singer-songwriter Joel Rafael. Her hands on experience in personal management as well as being involved in her own law practice provides a practical point of view that will enlighten you on the legal and contractual aspects of recording and performing. Her lecture on recording and publishing royalties will point you toward an understanding of how artists are compensated for these activities. Corrina's lecture on the budgeting and logistics of domestic and international touring will provide you with the tools to understand and execute Box Office accounting in America and foreign territories.
"From publishing, recording and touring to contracts, accounting and royalties, this is a comprehensive examination of the structure and mechanics of music as a business." Hartmann said. "We're inviting everyone with talent, drive and vision to join us in creating the new music paradigm."
