New York is a big city, and the Hard Rock Café is, well, a big café. So, on August 12, to welcome the Hard Rock to Times Square, the organizers staged a big event: the world’s largest guitar smash! 100 Gibson guitars were smashed simultaneously in what could either be conceived as a historic act of rebellion or a massive waste of expensive gear. Brian Wilson and Steven Van Zandt were both on hand for the event, which stopped traffic in the bustling square for 11 minutes. It kicked off a month of rockin’ festivities to honor the new site.
