Guitar Player Presents Mountain featuring Leslie West in SF January 23rd at the Independent! Win Tickets!

January 10, 2008

The wildly successful video game, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, includes the band’s signature song, “Mississippi Queen,” and is exposing it to a new generation of six-stringers. West played guest in his own house, so to speak, when he collaborated with Ozzy Osbourne for a crunchy cover version that appears on the recent Ozzy box set Prince of Darkness. Osbourne returned serve by appearing on Mountain’s 2007 Dylan-tribute CD, Masters of War, for a blow up version of the title track. Both hookups with metal’s main man point well-deserved recognition to Mountain as heavy rock pioneers. Howard Stern continues to recognize Mountain as one of his all-time favorites on his popular radio show, and West is a frequent guest. To top off Mountain’s re-emergence, Dean Guitars is unveiling a new Leslie West Signature Import model and the Mountain of Tone pickup at the Winter NAMM music manufacturer’s convention in Anaheim, CA.

GP presents Mountain in San Francisco will feature Corky Laing—the band’s drummer since 1970—and bassist Richie Scarlet (Original Alice Cooper Group). Tiedye Keith—Grammy-nominated this year for Best Jazz Instrumental—opens the show. Its members have several ties to Santana’s band, and its guitarists include Vernon Ice Black (Herbie Hancock) and Billy Spooner (The Tubes).
