Bay Area freak-rocker Bryan Kehoe and funky-flavored keyboardist Jonathan Korty are putting together an exclusive evening of entertainment for the July installment of Guitar Player night.
Bryan Kehoe is quickly making a name for himself with his crazy Kehoe Nation project after years of contributing to the music of M.I.R.V., Les Claypool, and Alice in Chains’ Jerry Cantrell. Kehoe’s over-the-top aesthetic and command of his instrument make him similar to Claypool, although Kehoe performs his technical wizardry on a cranked up Telecaster instead of a bass. He describes his music as “boogadigga rawk ‘n’ roll,” or “AC/DC meets Tom Waits in a knife fight.” Whatever you call it, one look at the Kehoe Nation’s latest CD, Music for Livers, proves the boy ain’t normal—Kehoe’s head attached to a chicken’s body!
It will be interesting to see how Kehoe’s hillbilly-from-hell guitar style fits in to the band assembled by keyboardist Jonathan Korty, best know for his work with jamband scene stalwarts, Vinyl. Korty is known for his killer groove, with stylistic influences ranging from New Orleans funk to Latin and dub music. Add Kehoe’s tough twangin’ and you’ve got a recipe for something totally different.
