GP Presents Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group in SF at Great American Music Hall on April 12th—Win Tickets!

April 5, 2011

Omar Rodriguez Lopez earned international attention for his maniacal guitar attack and otherworldly sounds as a member of At the Drive-In with vocalist Cedric Bixler Zavala. That led to a dub project called De Facto, and eventually into the highly experimental Mars Volta, which has been among the top rock acts in the world since its formation in 2001. In addition to copious collaboration and production credits, the prolific Puerto Rican-born Rodriguez Lopez has recorded a slew of solo records. Telesterion, due April 16th, is a 37-song anthology of his work outside of the Mars Volta.

Check out sample tracks "Locomocion Capillar" and "Shake is for 8th Graders.” Stream/download all of Omar's solo releases HERE.

Trying to describe Rodriguez Lopez’ genre-shattering array of guitar styles, tones, and techniques is mind-boggling. In his February 2010 GP cover story on Rodriguez Lopez, Barry Cleveland described the Mars Volta trip as being, “replete with the rapid-fire angular riffs, tricky time signatures, disturbingly warped tonalities, torrid solos, and brilliantly effected tones.”
