GP Presents Eddie Roberts at the Sweetwater Music Hall August 14th--Win Tickets!

August 10, 2012
imgWales native Eddie Roberts recently moved to San Francisco and that’s a big deal for groove guitar fans in and around the Bay Area because Roberts is one of the most happening funky jazz players on either side of the Atlantic.

Roberts is best known for leading the New Mastersounds, which is one of the few acts to be embraced by jam band heads and jazz buffs alike.

Roberts’ self-described “roughneck” style of guitar playing incorporates the kind of syncopated funk of Leo Nocentelli threw down in the early years of the Meters and the sexy cool of soul jazz icon Grant Green. Like Green, Roberts is known to wield a semi-hollowbody Gibson 330.
When he’s not touring internationally with the New Mastersounds, Roberts is filling his calendar with special band solo engagements at select venues including this show at the legendary Sweetwater, and headlining the Guitarfish Music Festival on September 15th at Cisco Groove Campground on I-80 near Lake Tahoe.

The Guitarfish Festival is giving away 3-day passes to the winner of its drawing at Roberts’ Sweetwater show on August 14th. Enter the contest onsite at the GP Presents table where you can also pick up a free copy of Guitar Player and accessories provided by D’Addario and Planet Waves. You must be present to win Guitarfish Music Festival passes.

Bay Area music fanatics—especially those in the North Bay—are familiar with the Sweetwater’s storied past and the unfortunate closing of its doors in 2007. Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir recently resurrected the club, and Guitar Player is very excited present its first event at the hot new Sweetwater Music Hall with the very groovy Eddie Roberts & the West Coast Sounds.

Watch Eddie Roberts demonstrate funk rhythm techniques in this video.
