|Albert Lee is touring in celebration of turning 70 this year, and GP is pleased to help Yoshi’s Oakland bring the guitar icon to the Bay Area’s flagship jazz venue.
Lee’s incredible list of credits includes the Everly Brothers, Eric Clapton, Rosanne Cash, and pedal-steel/Dobro maestro Gerry Hogan, who invited Lee to front his band Hogan’s Heroes.
More recently, Albert recorded and toured with Stones bassist Bill Wyman. In 2002 he appeared on stage at the Concert for George to celebrate the life and music of George Harrison. The same year, Lee received a Grammy for his work on Brad Paisley's Cluster Pluck. He also received nominations for tracks on three solo CDs.
Lee’s current project is the 70th Birthday Celebration, a solo album, documentary and concert project celebrating his illustrious career in music.
The documentary is already well underway, and a whole host of musicians have been more than happy to sit down and chat about a man widely regarded to be one of the best guitarists in the world.
Albert is also collaborating with musicians, past and present, to craft a brand new solo effort, recorded “as live.”
To veteran Guitar Player readers, Lee is an old friend who has always been willing to share tips regarding his considerable technique.
One notable technique Lee adopted with zeal is Nashville “echo cascade” or “timed delay” effect, whereby an echo unit supplies notes in between the picked ones in rhythm with the groove.
