Gary Moore

August 1, 2007

Raised in Belfast, Ireland, Gary Moore is one of rock guitar’s most underappreciated stylists. Between his 1973 solo debut, Grinding Stone, to his latest blues effort, Close as You Get [Eagle], Moore has been a hired gun, a fusion hot shot, an arena-rock hero, and a blues guitarist whose vocal-like vibrato, spot-on intonation, and scary chops influenced the likes of Randy Rhoads, John Sykes, and Kirk Hammett. Moore’s catalog is tough to suss, as its contents have been repackaged and re-released numerous times on different labels. The aim here, however, is to shine a light onto Moore’s most intense 6-string excursions throughout his nearly 40-year career.
