Greg Koch

Guitar Gristle
The madness of Greg Koch was first profiled in Guitar Player’s December ’01 issue, where he detailed his perverse cross-pollination of country, blues, and rock. Now the guy has gone all multimedia with the release of the instructional DVD, Guitar Gristle. Here, Koch proves himself to be as funny as he is talented with hilarious descriptions of his head- spinning guitar techniques. Students are treated to “Chicken Pickin’ Fricassee,” “Behind-the-Nut Rustling,” and “Hybrid Picking Wrongdoing,” as well as many other twisted tricks. The only caveat is that Guitar Gristle doesn’t come with a booklet or onscreen tab, so beginners beware—there isn’t much hand holding (although Koch does play most of the cool stuff at a slower tempo). This guy absolutely shreds and somehow maintains a sense of humor. If you want to learn to play like Albert Lee with a toothache or Chet Atkins in the throes of mad cow disease, this is the DVD for you. Hal Leonard.
