Bushmills, Bischoff, and Bon Iver create "The 1608"

April 16, 2013

Luthier Gordy Bischoff collaborated with Justin Vernon of Bon Iver to build this baritone guitar from Bushmills whiskey barrels.

The body is 95% quarter-sawn white oak from the barrels, with a beam under the top that holds two magnetic pickups, and there is also an acoustic pickup mounted in the wooden bridge. The guitar has a hard-rock maple bolt-on neck with a 27.5"-scale ebony fretboard, and the Volume and Tone controls are made from Bushmills bottle caps.
