“As a state-of-the-art recording studio contained entirely inside a tour bus we have chosen our equipment and instruments extremely carefully,” says Chief Engineer Jeff Sobel. “The bus is a proving ground for all types of gear, as we have virtually no downtime. The bus produces original work with students every day, so there is no room onboard for gear or instruments that are not the best sounding and most reliable. We’re pleased to have Crate and Ampeg amps onboard the Lennon Bus as they provide amps to fit all of our needs, from studio to stage. With this complement of amps at our disposal we are able to dial in any tone our students or artists can dream of.”
Onboard, the studio bus boasts Crate Flexwave FW15 and Crate V5 guitar amps, plus an Ampeg BT15 bass amp. “We like to use smaller amps so we can crank them up in our confined space. The V5 is the perfect amp for us, a small amp designed to be turned all the way up all the time.”
The backline onstage consists of Crate Flexwave FW120 and Profiler 5 guitar amps, and the Ampeg BA-115HPT bass amp combo.
“Crate and Ampeg pride themselves on their rich history of supporting musicians and music education,” adds Kevin Van Pamel, director of marketing for Ampeg and Crate. “The John Lennon Educational Tour Bus and its legacy of bringing music awareness to many diverse groups across the country is a perfect extension of our commitment to the same. We’re excited to be involved with this year’s tour and doing our part to support a truly exceptional and worthy experience for musicians and music lovers.”
“Ampeg and Crate have been fantastic to work with,” Sobel concludes. “They really know their products and have been wonderful about recommending specific amps to best meet our needs. They make so many great amps it’s very beneficial to be able to narrow down which ones we should be auditioning by having someone knowledgeable from the company make recommendations for us. Crate and Ampeg help keep the Lennon Bus rocking!”
