7 Album Rigs You Can Score Cheaper

January 24, 2013

WE’VE COVERED A TON OF CLASSIC AND CONTEMPORARY RIGS IN OUR POPULAR “POSH VS . POOR” series, where we take a guitar star’s gear and imagine far more budget-conscious ways for the average Joe or Jane to simulate the signal path. For this month’s outing, we’re offering cost-effective substitutions for the basic rigs used on some of 2012’s notable albums. In all cases, if the manufacturer of the star’s gear offers a budget alternative—even in a different division or brand—we went for that option. However, in situations where vintage, discontinued, or super-expensive gear is part of the star’s rig, we selected one of the least expensive alternatives by different manufacturers. All listed costs are street prices.

If you have a favorite artist whose rig you’d like us to “budget-ize,” just email his or her name to me at mmolenda@musicplayer.com. Until then, check out our cost re-imagined rigs for Dan Auerbach, George Benson, Ani DiFranco, Dave Mustaine, Joe Satriani, Chris Rubey, Jeremy DePoyster, and Andy Timmons. Have fun!
