The Difference Scales Make: Hear One Guitar Lick Played in Seven Scales

February 15, 2017

As we’ve discussed here before, you can benefit a lot from learning scales and how to use them in your playing and songwriting.

If you have any doubt, this video should put the matter to rest. In it, Tyler Larson performs one guitar lick in seven different scales.

The scales are: minor pentatonic, harmonic minor, major, major pentatonic, gypsy, harmonic major and Japanese.

Listen as he moves the lick through the various scales and notice how the mood and tension change.

If you want to learn more about scales, check out our lesson “Around the World in Seven Scales,” which includes tab and audio.
