Allan Holdsworth, Terry Bozzio, Tony Levin, and Pat Mastelotto (HoBoLeMa) played six entirely improvised gigs at Yoshi's Jazz Club in Oakland, CA from January 8-10, 2010, as part of HoBoLeMa's U.S. tour. Thanks to Allan's manager Leonardo Pavkovic, I was able to attend five of the six shows, and shoot video of the 10:00 show on Friday, as well as record short video interviews with the members of the band. Each of the six shows was entirely different, but these three clips provide some idea of what the second Friday set sounded like. Unfortunately, the quality leaves much to be desired—though the actual sound was quite good. As is to be expected with pure improvisation, some of the sets were more inspired than others, and my personal favorites were the two Saturday shows, both of which were stellar from start to finish.
