Purple Rain 30th Anniversary!

June 24, 2014
share
Purple Rain — released 30 years ago today on June 25, 1984 — brought everything together for Prince, and the music world was forever changed. The album not only fused rock, funk, gospel, soul, and dance music, but, as the soundtrack for the film of the same name, Prince influenced fashion, sexuality, and staging, and set the bar for what defined cool. But unlike a lot of fusions of music and pop culture, Prince also did a solid for the guitar, taking thrilling, Hendrix-inspired solos on the album that were also replicated in the film's boisterous concert sequences.
