Jimmy Page Talks About the Formation of Led Zeppelin

February 23, 2015
A few months ago, we got Jimmy Page and Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell together, onstage at the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles, to talk about Jimmy’s new book, Jimmy Page, a lavish photographic history of his life in music.

During the one-and-a-half hour event, Cornell asked Page about his life and work while photos from the book—many of which come from Page’s personal archives—were projected on a screen above them. The topics ranged from Page’s work as a session guitarist to his years with the Yardbirds and, of course, the glory days of Led Zeppelin.

In this third installment from the interview, presented here, Jimmy Page talks about why he broke up the Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin’s album-driven ascent to the top of the charts, and the combination of talent that made Zeppelin such a force in rock music.

Check out our first and second segments of the talk.

And be sure to check out Guitar Player’s March 2015 issue, in which we share excerpts from their historic discussion. The issue goes on sale February 17 and includes interviews with Brian May, Daniel Lanois, Alex Skolnick, and more.
